Agents
The agent is a small program you install on each server that runs ORDS. It watches your ORDS instances locally and reports health, logs, and status changes to ORDSwatch.
How the connection works
The agent connects outbound from your ORDS server to ORDSwatch over a secure WebSocket connection. This means:
- No inbound firewall rules or open ports are needed on your ORDS server
- The agent works from behind NAT, VPNs, or restrictive corporate networks as long as outbound HTTPS/WSS is allowed
- If the connection drops, the agent reconnects automatically and resumes reporting
Enrolling a new agent
- In the dashboard, go to Agents → Enroll New Agent
- ORDSwatch generates a one-time enrollment token — copy it (it's only shown once)
- On your ORDS server, install the agent and provide the token when prompted (either in its config file or an environment variable, depending on how you installed it)
- Start the agent. It uses the token to register itself with your account, then the token is consumed and can't be reused
If a token expires or is lost before you use it, generate a new one — old unused tokens don't work.
Agent status
The Agents page lists every agent enrolled on your account:
- Connected — actively reporting
- Disconnected — was connected but has since dropped; instances it owns show as Unknown until it reconnects
- Last-seen timestamp for each
What the agent reports
Once connected, an agent sends:
- The list of ORDS instances it finds/manages
- Periodic health check results for each instance
- Status change events (an instance going up, down, or degraded)
- Live log lines as they're written
- Results of start/stop/restart commands you trigger from the dashboard
Removing an agent
Agents → (agent) → Remove. This disconnects the agent and removes the instances it owned from your dashboard. Uninstall the agent program on the server itself separately if you no longer need it there.
